Word Cafe Raglan 2017 Programme

This year’s programme is full to the brim with conversations, workshops, readings, stand-up poetry and more, all taking place at the Raglan Town Hall.

Friday 30 June

Free community event at the Raglan Town Hall. Doors open 6:30pm.

7pm. Welcome to Word Café Raglan 2017: Official Opening.
7:30pm onwards. Spoken Poetry Showcase, with poets Carrie Rudzinski, Michael Moore, Wanda Barker and Maris O’Rourke.

Saturday 1 July

Ticketed events at the Raglan Town Hall. Doors open 8:30am.

9am–10am. In Conversation: Local Books in the Making, with local authors Bernadette Gavin, Jacquie McRae and Stephanie Philp.
10:30–11:30am. The Making of Someone’s Mana, with poet Haare Williams and photographer Michael Krzanich.
11:30–12:30pm. Meeting Mansfield, with graphic novelist Sarah Laing.

1:30pm–2:30pm. Hard Work with a Dash of Romance: the Life of an Internationally Bestselling Author, with author Nalini Singh.
2:30–3:30pm. On Not Giving Up, with children’s author Tina Matthews.
4–5pm. The Anatomy of an Award-winning Book, with children’s author Maria Gill, and book awards judge and school librarian Fiona Mackie.

Ticketed evening event at the Raglan Town Hall. Doors open 7pm.

7:30pm-9:30pm. Word Café Evening Extravaganza, with media personality and author Karyn Hay, and poet and short story writer Tracey Slaughter.
9:30pm onwards. Open Mic, with students from the University of Waikato’s creative writing programme.

Sunday 2 July

Separate ticketed event at the Raglan Town Hall. Doors open 8:30am.

9am–11am. Sit Down and Write Workshop, with author Jacquie McRae.

Free community event at the Raglan Town Hall. Doors open 9:45am.
10am–11am. Book Launch: The To Be List, with Latesha Randall and Sebastian Walter.

Ticketed event at the Raglan Town Hall. Doors open 11am.

11:30am–12:30pm. Writing Poems is a Bouquet of Roses, with poet Paula Green.

Free community events at the Raglan Town Hall.

1:30pm–2:30pm. Book Launch: All Her Dark Pretty Thoughts, with Wanda Barker.
2:30–3:30pm.. Word Café Raglan Writing Competition, announcement of and readings from the winners.
3:30pm. Thanks from Word Cafe 2017.
