The Anatomy of an Award-winning Book

Author Maria Gill has written over 60 books for children and teachers. Her book Anzac Heroes won the 2016 New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults in the non-fiction category, and the Margaret Mahy Book of the Year prize.
In the past, Maria has worked as a secretary, shepherdess, teacher, lecturer, and now writes full-time in a small seaside village north of Auckland.
The Session
Hear two-time judge and school librarian Fiona Mackie, and winner of the 2016 Margaret Mahy Book of the Year Award author Maria Gill, talk about what makes a book award-winning. Mackie will share the characteristics of books that shine and Gill will expound on the effort to get her book noticed.
